KEY PLEDGE: In hopes of settling a missile defense deal, the U.S. has offered a guarantee to Russia that it would not activate sites in the Czech Republic and Poland until Iran has test-flown a missile capable of reaching Europe.
TIMING: President Bush meets with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Sunday in the Black Sea resort of Sochi.
EXPECTATIONS: Bush and Putin might say they have an understanding on Washington and Moscow's most important issues as both capitals transition to new leaders.
