Russia has reiterated its opposition to Ukraine joining NATO, after the US President announced he would support the former Soviet state's bid to join the military alliance.
President George W Bush used a visit to Ukraine on his way to the NATO summit in Romania to say he would be supporting both Kiev's and Georgia's push to become members of the alliance.
Russia's Deputy Foreign Minister, Grigory Karasin, said if that happens it will result in a deep crisis in Russian-Ukranian relations.
Some members of Russia's lower house of Parliament want the government to review - and even withdraw - from a friendship and cooperation agreement it has with Ukraine.
Russia's envoy to NATO, Dmitry Rogozin, has told the Interfax news agency that if Ukraine and Georgia are given membership action plans, that would mark a point of no return in his country's relations with the Alliance.
